Notice Checker

Did your landlord give enough notice?

Every state sets a typical minimum number of days a landlord must give in writing before raising rent on a month-to-month lease. Compare yours to that benchmark.

A few caveats

  • Notice rules typically apply to month-to-month tenancies. Inside a fixed-term lease, the rent is locked until renewal.
  • Some cities (e.g. Seattle, parts of CA) require longer notice than the statewide minimum.
  • Notice usually must be in writing. A verbal heads-up doesn't count in most states.
